If you’re like me and have started your online home based business, you’re probably saying that’s great, now what.  You may have your own new website or newly acquired affiliate site.  These sites may look good but cannot generate traffic by themselves. Nothing happens until prospective visitors know where you are.

As I said, “New Online Business – Now What?”  Well none of these sites stand alone.  As a matter of fact no website stands alone no matter how well known the company or the product or service being advertised.  One way or another your new job is to get new and unique visitors to your site to possibly partake of your offering.  Nobody tells you that the site does not attract viewing all by itself.  Something has to be done to bring in the traffic. It is not like the infamous saying from the movie “Shoeless Joe”, with the statement, “build it and they will come”.  This was talking about building a baseball stadium to attract the old-time baseball greats.  Just build the stadium.  Once the stadium is built everyone will come.  In reality and real life, this rarely happens and in particular, in the website business, never.  Something has to be done by you to make your site known to your target market.

Your website may have all of the tools available to get people to sign up for your offering but how do I know this unless I am drawn to your site.  I mentioned earlier that your site is not a stand alone so that means there are other aids to making your site stand up and be recognized.  You have probably heard of SEO, PPC, Adsense, articles, press releases, social media (blogs, tweets, lenses, hubs, and so much more), video marketing, and other news board related sites.  The idea is one media source promoting another media source.  The outcome is usually to get people to the place that most allows them to be a participant in what you have to offer, your website.

The way that these other media and advertising sources work is like a sign posted along a trail pointing people to the final resting place, your website.  “Now what?” is telling you that your site alone is never going to be enough.  You are going to have to employ a few or as many of these alternate sources on your sign.  It is very much like word of mouth only you don’t know enough people on your own to make it work.  So you tweet and send people to your site.  You make a youtube type video and direct people to your site.  Write an article or press release and you got it, to send people to your site.  Pay per click is an ad that will point people to your site, where they can find out what you want to tell them.  I believe the best of all is search engine optimization because it is the most effective and also very, very low cost.  Basically free, the only problem is, it does take a bit of time and will require some expert tutoring.  However there is plenty of free such e-books and sites that cater specifically to this.

Your ultimate goal is that you and your new website don’t have to be alone waiting for visitors because there are plenty of direction leading sources to help you along the way.  My suggestion would be to try them all and get as many direction arrows pointing to your site as possible.  It can only help and never harm.  Just remember after you have developed your website, begin to think of different ways that are at your disposal to help direct people to your new website.

Tip #1) Weigh your options carefully before picking your topic.  Spend the time required to select a topic you know well.  Investing a few minutes upfront to hone in on something you thoroughly understand can save a great deal of time associated with research and fact finding for topics you don’t know as well.  You will find your article writing results for both quality and quantity excel using this strategy.  Just remember; your ultimate goal as an article writer is to attract the attention of your desired readers.   Make sure you are dead-on with the topics that most interest your targeted audience as well.
