The first step is knowing who you want to appeal to! Your first key question you must ask yourself: “Who is my target audience?” Some sites are aimed towards everyone and anyone, like Google or WalMart. Some websites have a specific purpose and product that is designed for a more narrow group of people. This must be established in the blue prints of your site before you begin building it. The site content should be pleasing to the user and be easy enough to navigate your way through the web site. If the site’s purpose is aimed for professional business standards, you need to understand what that particular group is looking to get out of the site. On the other hand, if the site is based around music for teens you will take a very different approach to the over all style of the site.

“What are visitors and potential customers expecting from your web site?” Now that you have narrowed down the audience and objective of your site, it is time to determine what the traffic coming to your site will look for. You don’t want to throw them a curve ball and knock them off their bar stool. The site should provide exactly what you advertise and show the service on the front page. This is an important balancing act that could take some trial and error methods to perfect. The words “overkill” and “underkill” should stay present in your mind while you think this over. Too much, or too little on the home page can make it too difficult to find the desired results, thus forcing the customer to leave. Usually, if I don’t see what I expected the site to contain on the first glance I will keep looking on other sites or “google” it. Keep it simple and unique.

The next question is “What is the goal or service of the website?” What is your site providing and what are its objectives? This should be an easy question to answer and build on. Just about every business in the world today has a customized website, so you’re competing with the whole world. If you are running a business that delivers worldwide, keep in mind that a more simple style that is easy to navigate would be essential. However, keep it creative. Websites give small business a chance to feel and appear “bigger” than they really are. They also allow you to reach out to the customers in a cost effective and convenient manner.

“What should your site visitors leave the site with?” This is very important and is relevant to the last question. For example, if the site visitor comes to your site looking for your business hours or contact info, but all you have is ads about the products all over the place and it’s difficult to locate the contact info, you may have lost business. In a sense, you must anticipate the reason behind a customers visit just like the customer trying to anticipate your site having what they are looking for. Since the internet is not a walk-in store, you won’t be able to physically witness a customer looking at a certain piece of merchandise and answer their questions right on the spot. The site visitor should leave well informed if they did not make a purchase.

The fifth and final question is last but not least. “Why should they come back?” Again, you must put yourself in the customers shoes. What makes you bookmark a site, or email it to your friend? If you aren’t bringing customers back to the site, then you are really just spilling the beans to the competition. This requires creativity and practice. It also brings me back to points I made in all four of the previous questions. Target audience is key and once you know the audience, it will be easier to establish what is going to keep them coming back. Also, don’t overkill and underkill the site. Be plentiful with information and examples of products or services, but don’t look desperate for business or unprofessional. This is a great opportunity for your business to look big!

I wonder what his parents thought of him while he was growing up? Like any good parents they would have been proud of him and supported him in any way that they could.

Ringo Starr was the beat of the Beatles. Sure there was John, Paul, George, but Ringo was their support structure. I remember when I saw the Beatles in Toronto in 1965. I couldn’t even hear them at that time because of all the screaming. Anyway, that was a long time ago. But, I will never forget how Ringo kept the band on track even while they were surrounded by screaming fans.

Since that day in 1965, I have followed the Beatles and have grown to really admire their work. They took great pride in what they were doing as well as created endless musical songs and lyrics for all the world to enjoy.

I dropped into a friends house the other day and I happened to notice that his teenage son had Beatles posters all over his walls and an extensive musical collection.
